Why chronic health issues need herbalism

When you have a simple issue, it’s easy to find information about which herbs might be helpful. Take some ginger if you’re nauseated. Take some chamomile if you’re anxious. Maybe some gotu kola if your brain is foggy.

If you’re using herbs this way, that’s great! But when you have a chronic or complex health issue, you need to unlock the power of herbs on a deeper level.

That’s where an herbalist can help you. Chronic and complex issues can take some time to resolve. Herbs can help you in a way that no other approach can.

You’ll hear ads on TV that fibromyalgia is “caused by overactive nerves.” If you’re like me, you’re wondering, what’s causing the overactive nerves. Yes, overactive nerves are a symptom, not a cause. Prescription medications require a diagnosis and a symptom. Without that, there’s no way to use them. Herbs don’t have to work this way.

Here are a few ways an herbalist can be instrumental in helping you with a chronic or complex health situation:

1) Conventional medicine has probably already done what they can to help you. Our medical system simply isn’t designed to treat a chronic illness without a known cause. Even when they can address a problem, it nearly always becomes symptom management.

2) Chronic health issues can take some time to resolve. It’s important to start on the best herbs for your situation because it’s easy to get discouraged if progress is slow, or if you feel worse at first.

3) I can set proper expectations for you, and often play the role of cheerleader. I make adjustments along the way to your protocol. Sometimes adding in a single herb, or perhaps changing the ratios of a current formula, can make a huge difference. Having the knowledge and experience to make those recommendations takes years to acquire.

4) Complex issues can involve layers of imbalances and dysfunction. Knowing where to start is important for the long term success, and for feeling as good as possible along the way.

The good news is that you can improve your health. Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, chronic digestive issues… people with these can conditions can all benefit from clinical herbalism.
